Wealth or Poverty--which are you closest to? It may depend on if you consider your glass half full or half empty. It depends on your definition of rich and poor and whether monetary value is your only consideration. I'd like to offer a suggestion on changing the perspective of thinking. We've heard people claim they are the richest person in the world because they are loved and their loved ones are healthy. Yet, deep down these people are doing what they think they should to accept a given fate. These people often are not as happy as they could be. To change the perspective of thinking ask yourself what makes you laugh and what makes you cry. THESE are your passions and things to embrace and run TO. There's also another change of perspective. Do you run to your passions or away from them? Do you run towards abundance or scarcity? You may have more debts than the Federal Government (okay...we all know you don't!) but do you run towards abundance or scarcity? Things you have a lot of or very little of--which do you run to? embrace?

Abundance seeking involves running to things you have a lot of. Scarcity seeking involves running to things you have little of. Debt is not an abundance of debt but rather a scarcity of money. Hate is a scarcity of love. Crying is a scarcity of laughter. Pain is a scarcity of joy or peace. So if you believe you have an abundance of these things what you really have is a scarcity of the other end of the spectrum. If you have an abundance of money you have a scarcity of debt. I am not claiming seeking abundance or scarcity is better than the other. Typically those who embrace one end of the spectrum are afraid and avoid the other end of the spectrum.

I have ran towards both abundance and scarcity. Let me tell you from a personal perspective, I enjoy the embracing abundance. Scarcity depresses me. Those individuals who are afraid of success will cling to scarcity. There is a feeling of safety for them in having less than having more. If you fear failure you more than likely run towards abundance.

So how does Wealth and Poverty play into abundance and wealth. Just adopting an attitude and running toward abundance is not going to move you into a new income tax bracket. But do you become wealthier? Those who choose to run towards abundance will fill their lives with things they already have a lot of--children, love, laughter, friends, company, etc. If you run towards scarcity you could be inclined to embrace things you have little of responsibilities, tasks, chores and work towards not accumulating these things. Does living a scarce life mean you are poor? Not at all. What it means is you feel rich or wealthy having little. There are many people like that. By having little you may feel more inclined to really feel wealthy with the very few things you do have an abundance of (loved ones, health, company, money etc. )

What does common sense have to say about wealth and poverty, abundance and scarcity? Common sense says we should make sure the abundant things in our lives are things that make us physically, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and financially better off with them than without. We should make sure the scarce things in our lives are things that having little of makes us better off. A person can live a very abundant or scarce life and get so out of control they start to harm themselves physically, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and financially. In order to become wealthy you must move towards your passions--those things that make you laugh and those things that make you cry. Whether you are closer to wealth or poverty is really a subjective decision for you to make. To become wealthier you need to become more abundant in things that improve your life and scarce in things that diminish your life (in other words run to your passion). It's a balancing act that often gets out of control. This is when problems arise for people. In the next article I will address how you find your passion.
